I'm visible and active in Emsworth all year round. My work for Emsworth residents, locally and in Westminster, includes:
• Voting for March’s Budget which cuts tax for workers, protects the State Pension Triple Lock, freezes fuel and alcohol duty, expands Child Benefit, and invests in our NHS. Combined with January’s National Insurance tax cut, the Budget puts £900 back into the pocket of the average worker.
• Delivering a new Emsworth GP Surgery building, providing residents with modern health facilities. My work included securing £3.5million of funding, stopping the sale of the Victoria Cottage Hospital site and chairing meetings to drive the project forward over 5 years working with our councillors and community representatives.
• Boosting funding for Hampshire Police to roll-out a new Named Local Bobby Scheme, which means all Emsworth residents now have a named police officer covering their street, and access to their e-mail and mobile number. Emsworth’s police are more contactable than ever before.
• Successfully securing £58million for a new Emergency Department at Queen Alexandra Hospital, which serves everyone in Emsworth. It’s due to open this winter.
• Stopping the proposed closure of Emsworth Station’s ticket office, so residents can still buy tickets and obtain information face-to-face with Southern Rail staff.
• Extending the £2 single bus fare cap until the end of 2024, making bus travel cheaper for Emsworth residents on services like Stagecoach’s Coastliner 700 service.
• Stopping the closure of Emsworth Library by brokering a move to a new home inside Emsworth Community Centre. I opened the new Library, and it remains popular with residents.
• Successfully pressuring Southern Water to reduce discharges by investing £4.2 million in new stormwater storage tanks, and publishing an action plan to totally end discharges.
• Organising my popular annual Health & Wellbeing Fair at Emsworth Methodist Church, which helps Emsworth residents obtain information and advice about physical and mental health.
• Launching my Tree Planting Challenge, supported by the Woodland Trust, to plant more trees to improve our environment. The Ems Valley Memorial Arboretum have contributed to the project’s success, with over 150 new trees planted and more to come!
