Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed the Labour Government's u-turn on banning social media for under-16s.
He said Labour MPs had repeatedly voted against Conservative proposals for the ban, but Prime Minister Keir Starmer had now been forced to change his position.
Mr Mak said: "Despite the dither and delay, I welcome the Prime Minister finally listening to the voices of brave bereaved parents, health professionals, campaigners, and children themselves.
"Labour tried to kick this issue into the long grass, while Reform are not serious about protecting our children online either.
"Only the Conservatives have the plan to put the interests of our children first."
He added: "Thanks to everyone in our community who took part in my survey. The overwhelming response from local people, including teachers, parents and pupils, was that children should be banned from accessing social media.
"Now I'm going to make sure that in Parliament the ban is implemented properly."
