Local MP Alan Mak has visited Isaac Family Butchers on Hayling Island ahead of Small Business Saturday and urged people to support independent traders.
He called in to see owner Lee Isaac to show his support and back the annual campaign that encourages people to use small businesses in their communities all year round.
Small Business Saturday takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on shopping habits. The theme this year is ‘celebrating the nation’s favourite businesses’.
Lee took over the former Alan Rae Butchers in Mengham last year, but it was already a very familiar environment. He began washing up there in 1999 when he was still at school and went on to learn all about butchery.
Lee said that although the butchers has a new name and a new look, the business continues to offer the same high quality meat that it has always been known for.
He explained: "I've kept it traditional but with a modern twist. We're on social media now, plus I've introduced new cuts of meat and we also have a deli offering cooked meats, pies, cakes, cheese, milk, butter and eggs.
"All of the Christmas orders are coming in at the moment and it's our busiest time of the year. It's a lot of hours, but the hard work pays off."
Mr Mak said: "I really enjoyed seeing Lee again and finding out about his business. Independent traders like Isaac Family Butchers are the lifeblood of our shopping centres and local economy, which is why it's so disappointing that the Labour Government's tax and spend Autumn Budget will make life more difficult for small businesses.
"I encourage residents across the Havant Constituency to support them by shopping local, not just on Small Business Saturday but all year round."
