Local MP Alan Mak has championed the UK tech sector at the German British Business Summit.
He spoke at the event in London on the theme of Innovation Without Borders: Unlocking UK-German Cooperation.
The summit, organised by the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany, aimed to spark discussion on how Germany and the UK can tackle today’s economic challenges and unlock tomorrow’s opportunities together.
It explored how policy and business across both countries can better align to foster investment, innovation, and sustainable growth.
Mr Mak said: "Supporting the UK economy is one of my top national priorities in Parliament, drawing on the hard work and success of local business in the Havant Constituency. In an age when ideas travel faster than ever, the real question is not where innovation begins but where it scales and who benefits from it.
"The question is no longer if technology will transform our businesses and economies, but where in the world that transformation will happen - and who will own it. I want the UK to be home to future innovation and the best technology."
Mr Mak pointed out that, of the world's 25 most valuable companies, more than 15 are in the tech sector, 20 are American and none are European.
"Across the West, especially in the UK and Germany, we have world-class research, exceptional entrepreneurs and deep pools of capital.
"But what we don't yet have is a system that consistently scales our best ideas into global champions."
He said we need to mobilise more domestic capital, deepen cross-border partnerships and make Europe the best place in the world to grow and scale a business.
"Britain has financial depth, Germany has the industrial base and we both have the credibility. Now we must both have the ambition.
"Together we can turn invention into influence and build the foundations of power for the century ahead.
"So how do we close this scale-up gap? From my time as a Business, Trade and Treasury Minister, I've seen that the answer lies in three pillars: capital, infrastructure, and co-operation.
"Get those right and everything follows."
He added: "If we back our builders, invest in our inventors, and scale our successes, then Britain, Germany and our partners can prosper together."
