Local MP Alan Mak visits Havant coffee shop Ethos for Small Business Saturday and urges people to support independent traders

Local MP Alan Mak has visited Ethos Coffee & Brunch in North Street, Havant ahead of Small Business Saturday and urged people to support independent traders.

He called in to see directors Ollie Markham-Bradley and Ben Gregory to show his support and back the annual campaign that encourages shoppers to use small businesses in their communities all year round.

Small Business Saturday takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on shopping habits.

Ollie and Ben opened Ethos in December last year. They are friends who previously worked in hospitality together and felt there was a gap in the market for a small business that truly valued its guests and staff.

Ollie said: "Ben was originally my boss at a restaurant and took me under his wing. We wanted to create somewhere of our own that would feel very welcoming to young and old alike and deliver consistency and affordability.

"We work hard and live and breathe the business. We love what we do and hope that comes across. We're all about the personal touch."

They are open seven days a week and have attracted rave reviews for their food and coffee.

Ollie explained: "We rely heavily on our regulars and so far it has gone really well. It has massively exceeded our expectations."

Mr Mak said: "I really enjoyed calling in to see Ben and Ollie and the team again, having visited regularly since they opened. Small independent businesses such as Ethos are the lifeblood of our local economy.

"I encourage residents across the Havant Constituency to support them by shopping local, not just on Small Business Saturday but all year round."
