Local MP Alan Mak hosts successful 9th annual Havant Constituency Community Information Fair at Hayling Island Community Centre

Local MP Alan Mak has hosted his ninth annual Havant Constituency Community Information Fair at Hayling Island Community Centre.

Visitors took the opportunity to talk to representatives from local organisations, public service providers, clubs and other community groups.

Exhibitors ranged from the Hayling Light Railway and Hayling Horticultural Society to Havant Talking News and Hayling & Emsworth Primary Care Network.

Mr Mak has organised the Community Information Fair every year since he was elected as MP for Havant in 2015.

It is part of his annual calendar of community events which includes the 9th annual Jobs, Apprenticeships & Careers Fair at Bedhampton Community Centre on Friday 8 November and the 3rd annual Health & Wellbeing Fair at Emsworth Baptist Church on Friday 6 December.

On the Dementia-Friendly Havant Borough CIO stand was trustee and former Mayor of Havant Rosy Raines, together with fellow trustee and North East Havant County Councillor Jackie Branson.

Rosy said: "We're a new charity aimed at bringing people together and giving information and support to people with dementia and their carers.

"There is so much available for people with dementia and the fair has really helped us to tell people about the charity and spread the message."

Angharad Pike, chair of Hayling Island Horticultural Society, added: "The fair is a good opportunity to raise our profile, to sign up new members and attract volunteers."

This very active society has 600 members who enjoy a programme of talks, events and outings plus an annual show. It also runs a trading centre selling plants, tools and compost.

Mr Mak said: "I was delighted to host more than 30 exhibitors and welcome residents to this year's Community Information Fair, which provides a platform for local activities, charities and community groups to showcase what they offer.

"I'd like to thank all the exhibitors and all those who visited and helped to make this event such a success."
