Local MP Alan Mak has visited Emsworth Town FC to congratulate the team after they won the Hampshire FA Sunday Vase Cup and the City of Portsmouth Football League London Cup in the club's first season.
He met manager Jimmy Ruston at Emsworth Recreation Ground to talk about their success and see the trophies.
Hundreds of teams entered the FA competition across Hampshire, Dorset, Surrey and Berkshire and the Oystermen's victory was made even more impressive as they had to play every round away from home. They beat Rushmoor Community FC on penalties after the final finished 4-4 in normal time.
The team also beat league rivals Coach and Horses Albion 2-0 to win the City of Portsmouth Football League London Cup in front of 700 spectators.
As well as their cup triumphs, Emsworth Town secured promotion from Portsmouth Division 3 by finishing as runners-up. With 23 wins, three draws and just three losses, it was a very successful league season.
Alan Mak MP said, “Congratulations to Emsworth Town FC for doing the double in their first season! Jimmy and everyone involved with the Club should be very proud of their great achievements, which are a credit to Emsworth. I wish them luck during the new season!”
The club is keen to attract new players and sponsors. Please email [email protected].
