Local MP Alan Mak has joined Hayling Islander Angela Hopkins and local Legion volunteers at the Lidl superstore on Manor Road to raise funds for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
The Havant Constituency MP is the Vice President of the Havant Royal British Legion, as well as a longstanding Legion volunteer himself. Every year since he was elected to represent Havant Constituency in Parliament, he has taken time to sell poppies in the Constituency.
The Poppy Appeal campaign, which runs for two weeks prior to Remembrance Day each year, collects money for the Royal British Legion, which in turn then donates the money raised to projects and charities that better the lives of veterans and Active Service Personnel, as well as promote their welfare.
Mr Mak will also be selling Poppies in the Meridian Centre on Remembrance Day on 11 November alongside other local Legion volunteers.
Alan Mak MP said: “Every year I join local volunteers to sell poppies to support our veterans. I was delighted to join Angela on Hayling Island again to get the local Poppy Appeal going this year. Islanders have always shown generosity to the Poppy Appeal, and I want to thank everyone who is planning to donate and wear a poppy between now and Remembrance Sunday.”
