Local MP Alan Mak has organised and hosted his seventh annual Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair at Havant Leisure Centre.
Mr Mak’s Fair has been an annual fixture of his constituency community activities since he was first elected to represent the Havant Constituency in 2015. This year the Fair was once again well attended by local residents and by over 30 exhibitors from across the local area, including employers from the public, private and voluntary sectors.
Along with members of the public, local schools were also invited to attend, with GCSE students at Purbrook Park School visiting to get a flavour of post-16 career options.
The students were also given the chance to ask Mr Mak questions about his role as a Member of Parliament, quizzing him on topics including the Conservative Leadership Contest, his time as a Minister, plus a range of local issues.
Mr Mak’s Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair is also a fantastic networking opportunity for residents, local businesses and community groups and charities who might otherwise be unaware of some of the economic activity present in the Havant Constituency. Employers have in the past found suitable candidates for vacant positions and gone on to hire as a direct result of meeting jobseekers at the Fair.
Local MP Alan Mak said: “Every year I organise my Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair to bring together jobseekers and employers. Fortunately unemployment in our area is low, but my Fair provides local people looking for work or career advice a fantastic opportunity to find out about the jobs on offer in our local area. Local employers have told me they are keen to recruit local talent as our economy recovers from COVID.”
Hayling Islander Olivia Mead, from Platinum Care Solutions, said “Thank you to Alan Mak MP for inviting us to his Fair again. We are always looking for more care workers and the Fair is a great opportunity to connect with possible candidates who we will be following up with.”
Richard Cooper from ComServ said: “Alan’s Fair is a great opportunity for us to network with other businesses from a variety of industries in the area. These connections are really useful and we want to thank Alan for inviting us.”
Harry Bailey, a student at Purbrook Park School who attended the Fair, said: “I had a really good time coming to Alan’s Fair. There were lots of career options available and I found it very beneficial to my future after school.”
