Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed the news that the Government is continuing to provide funding for holiday food and activities for local pupils during this February half-term.

Government funding is enabling Hampshire County Council to deploy £398,979 to local organisations to provide free meals to lower income children during the half term break. The Government issued the funding to local authorities to support schemes that help vulnerable families with food and utilities costs. Hampshire County Council is using the funding to extend the Holiday Activities and Food programme during the upcoming February Half Term break.

Local MP Alan Mak welcomed the  announcement that the Government has continued to provide funding for holiday food for local pupils during this February half-term. He visited St. Alban’s Primary School in West Leigh to see how Government funding has provided meals for local pupils.

Prior to being elected as the MP for Havant in 2015, Alan Mak was President of Magic Breakfast, the UK’s leading school breakfast club charity which fights child hunger and poverty. Every day, Magic Breakfast provides free, nutritious breakfast foods to over thousands of children, including at six schools in the Havant Constituency.

Local MP Alan Mak said: “I welcome the new funding for holiday food and activities this half term for local pupils. The increased costs during the school holidays, on food and childcare for example, can be tough for some families. We can address this issue by creating opportunities for children to take part in free holiday clubs where a nutritious meal is provided”.
