Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed the Government’s announcement that Havant has been selected to receive Government-funded support from the High Streets Task Force.

The Government made the announcement as part of the Levelling-Up White Paper which was published this week.

Havant Borough Council will now receive expert advice and support for their regeneration plans for Havant town centre. As a selected area, Havant will receive specialist support to develop strategies for positive change to improve the local economy and built environment.

Mr Mak said: “I’m delighted the Government has selected Havant to receive support from the High Streets Task Force. It shows that the Government is committed to Levelling-Up all parts of the UK, including places like Havant town centre which benefits our entire constituency.”

“This is a great win for Havant, and I will continue lobbying for support and money for our area as new Levelling Up funds become available.”

The Government-funded support will start from summer this year, and begins with a visit from High Streets Task Force experts who will consult and collaborate with the local council, businesses and community groups, with the aim of unlocking the potential of Havant town centre.

In order to target high streets with the greatest need for support, regional indicators of deprivation and inequality have been analysed by central Government, following lobbying from local MPs including Alan Mak MP on behalf of Havant.
