Prime Minister Boris Johnson has re-appointed local MP Alan Mak as a Minister in the Government Whips’ Office with new responsibilities following the recent reshuffle. He will now also be part of the Ministerial teams in the Treasury and Ministry of Defence.

Government Whips are Ministers responsible for delivering the Government’s policy agenda through Parliament, led by the Chief Whip. Mr Mak previously served as the Conservative Party’s Vice Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Party’s Policy Board so is well-versed in the Government’s policy agenda. He will work continue working with several Government Departments to help pilot their legislation through Parliament, including the forthcoming Autumn Budget.

As a Whip, Mr Mak is also responsible for helping the Prime Minister and Chief Whip to maintain Party discipline in Parliament, supervising Parliamentary business in the House of Commons Chamber, and acting as a pastoral link between central Government and backbench MPs.

Mr Mak said, “I’m delighted to be re-appointed as a Minister by the Prime Minister, and I look forward to helping deliver the Government’s policy agenda in Westminster. My work as Havant Constituency MP is unchanged, and I will remain active in our community, continue helping local residents and carry on organising my community events like my Community Information Fair on Friday 8 October at Hayling Island Community Centre”.

He added, “It’s a huge honour to be re-appointed as a Minister, but my priority will always be my constituency-focused work so I’ll continue working hard all year round for local people.”

Mr Mak is one of the youngest Ministers in the Government and said he hoped his re-appointment would encourage more young people to consider public service, including standing for office locally and nationally.
