Local MP Alan Mak thanked residents for supporting his fourth constituency Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair on Friday.
The event, which took place at Havant Leisure Centre, is the area’s largest jobs fair, with more than 1,000 people coming on the day.
Around 60 local organisations, businesses and entrepreneurs from across the region hosted stands at the fair, offering over 500 job and apprenticeship opportunities.
Companies exhibiting included Fat Face, the Armed Forces, Superdrug, construction firm Barratt Homes, Premier Inn and Langstone Technology Park management company Fasset.
Mr Mak said the continued success of the Fair showed the strength of the local economy, with companies looking to hire and expand.
He said: “Every year I organise the Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair to bring together local residents and our thriving local businesses. There was once again a brilliant atmosphere and I’m already looking forward to meeting some of the residents who have got a job directly as a result of visiting the Fair.
“Once again, we had so many superb local organisations that attended, whose hard work and enthusiasm made the day so rewarding. This event is becoming a real fixture in the community calendar and I plan to host it again in 2020 for the fifth consecutive year.”
Aside from the job hunters, a number of local schools attended the event, and many students took the opportunity to find out more about apprenticeships and careers at local firms.
Several workshops run by the National Careers Service also took place on the day, with attendees learning tips on how to improve CVs and interview techniques.
Fasset Managing Director Gary Medlow said: “We were delighted to support Alan’s Jobs Fair again, and it keeps on going from strength to strength. We had some really good conversations with those who attended on the day, and it was a very worthwhile event to attend.”
The fair is one of three major community events run by Mr Mak, who confirmed that the popular Community Groups and Older Persons Information Fair will return later this year on Thursday 4 July from 10am to 2pm at the Meridian Centre in Havant.
