Residents and businesses across Havant are set to benefit from faster download speeds and clearer mobile phone voice calls after a key mobile phone mast was upgraded by operator Three.
Havant MP Alan Mak has praised mobile operator Three UK for investing in key local infrastructure, and has visited the mast to find out about the new technology being deployed.
The mast site near the Asda Roundabout in Bedhampton provides coverage for the wider Havant area, and has recently been upgraded to offer many residents in the area access to quicker mobile internet speeds through 4G technology. The site has also been upgraded with new low frequency 800MHz spectrum which will offers better indoor coverage to users with a compatible handsets.
Three’s network carries 42 per cent of the UK’s mobile internet traffic, so in addition to the faster speeds, 4G will also offer additional capacity to users in the Havant area.
Mak has lobbied the Chancellor George Osborne for more investment in broadband. He said that whilst the vast majority of the constituency enjoyed excellent mobile phone and broadband coverage, there were small pockets where it could be improved such as Northney in North Hayling Island.
Alan Mak MP said: “The phone mast upgrade is great news for the Havant area. Local residents and businesses on the Three network will enjoy faster download speeds and clearer phone calls, making life much easier, especially when indoors. Havant enjoys good digital infrastructure form mobile reception to broadband speeds, and the recent mast upgrade is a welcome development.”
Justin Kempley, Three public affairs manager, said: “It was great to show Alan around our mast site and bring him up to speed about our improvements in the area.”
