Alan Mak, MP for Havant, is asking local residents to nominate their favourite pub chef for his new Local Pub Chef Award.
The winner of Alan’s local competition will then go forward as Havant’s representative in a national competition to find Britain’s top pub chef run by the All Party Parliamentary Beer group, the British Beer and Pub Association, and Nestle.
Alan Mak MP is keen to recognise the important contribution to the local economy and community made by pubs and pub chefs.
Mak launched his Local Pub Chef Awards at Hayling Island’s newly refurbished West Town Inn with their pub chefs Martin Ayliffe and Lee Love. Mak was also joined by local Hayling Island councillors Andy Lenaghan and Michael Wilson.
Alan Mak MP said, “We all enjoy great pub food and this new Award is designed to showcase our talented pub chefs who make it all possible. Our local pubs are big employers contributing to our growing local economy and vibrant community hubs that bring people together.”
Alan Mak MP added, “I hope local residents will get behind our local pub chefs, and nominate them for this new Award. We have so many great pubs and talented pub chefs locally, and I have no doubt the winner of my local competition will do well in the national competition too!”
Martin Ayliffe, aged 26, Head Chef at the West Town Inn, who lives on Hayling Island, said "This is a great community initiative from our local MP. Local pubs are important parts of the community and everyone enjoys pub food. I encourage residents to support their local pubs and nominate their favourite pub chef!"
Local pub landlords and managers have been encouraged to ask their customers to vote for their pubs chef, and Alan Mak MP’s office will be sending local pubs a poster they can display in their pub inviting customers to submit nominations.
Voting will be online, and residents should CLICK HERE TO VOTE by midnight on Friday 6 November 2015. Only 1 vote per resident is allowed.
