Alan Mak is leading the campaign for a strong local economy, with more local jobs, higher wages, rising living standards and growing inward investment.
A strong economy locally and nationally is Alan's top priority and the biggest issue that local residents raise with him. Alan wants more local jobs, higher wages, rising living standards and growing inward investment. Alan and the Conservatives back hardworking people: we’ve cut income tax and frozen council tax and fuel duty. Our benefits cap stops people living off the dole.
Alan believes that successful local businesses are at the heart of a flourishing community. He has founded the Annual Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair that seeks to help residents of the constituency match with future job opportunities. Alan regularly visits a range of local businesses, to meet owners, staff and customers, to listen to local perspectives on the economy - and continues to do so.
Alan has sought to connect local businesses with national schemes, such as through support during the Covid-19 Pandemic and with the Government's £2 billion Kickstart employment scheme. During the Covid-19 Pandemic Alan supported government support-schemes throughout the constituency. These Conservative Government schemes allowed 12,100 people to have their job protected through the Job Retention Scheme, gave self-employed locals £13.7M worth of Government grants, paid out £31.3M in loans to local businesses as part of Bounce Back Loans, and awarded £11.5M in grants to local businesses.
He has also been vocal in supporting the Dunsbury Park freeport as an opportunity to bring large investment into the constituency.
Giles Babb, landlord of Emsworth’s Blue Bell Inn pub says. “Alan’s business experience means he knows how our economy works. As a shopkeeper’s son and small business owner, he’ll speak up for hardworking people like me and help us build a successful local economy and a secure future. I’m backing Alan Mak”
