Alan Mak MP has praised the North Hayling Recreation Hall’s annual fundraising fete following his visit on 17 July 2016. The fundraising event at Lower Tye Farm is one of the Island’s most popular annual events with almost 2000 visitors present last year.
Mr Mak spoke to residents at the opening of the fete before visiting the various stalls and attractions. Children’s face painting and musical performances kept the youngsters interested whilst punters looked to bag a bargain at the car boot sale or strike lucky in the prize raffle.
The Havant MP saw a variety of businesses and organisations that he has supported during his constituency work. Hayling’s own Northney Ice Cream and Dairy Farm, whom Mak visited with Food Secretary Liz Truss in February 2016, was represented by Managing Director Cllr Tim Pike. Nicky Rowe, North Hayling beekeeper and honey maker, sold jars of her popular locally-produced honey.
Havant MP Mak praised the ‘brilliant show’ put on by the residents’ association, from dancing and gymnastics to musical performances and donkey rides, there were a plethora of activities on offer. There were also demonstrations by local emergency services, including Hampshire Constabulary, to raise residents’ awareness to the important work they do.
The North Hayling Recreation Hall is a hub for local community events on the Island. They hold weekly classes for residents including tap dancing, sewing groups, the Women’s Institute and a book club.
Alan Mak MP said: “It was an honour to visit North Hayling Recreation Hall’s annual fundraising fete, one of the most popular events on the Island calendar. With thousands of residents in attendance, and stalls raising money for some great causes, the fete is a real highlight of the summer.”
Organiser Fenella May commented: “We thank Alan for his great support as our local MP. We’re pleased to see so many residents enjoying their weekends in this friendly atmosphere, and all for a good cause too. The fete continues to go from strength to strength!”
