Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed confirmation of this year’s £7m allocation of Environment Agency funding for flood defence work to protect people and property at Langstone.
This funding contributes towards the wider £23.6m project for the Langstone Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Scheme, which aims to reduce the risk of tidal flooding to homes along the sea frontage.
Coastal Partners, a partnership formed by five coastal councils including Havant, will deliver the scheme, which involves building 1km of new sea walls to protect against rising sea levels .
Mr Mak joined senior staff from Coastal Partners and the EA to visit Langstone and find out how the project aims to protect people and property. Work is planned to begin in April 2027 and continue until November 2028.
He has consistently campaigned for more flood defence funding and worked closely with Coastal Partners on flooding and other environmental issues across the Havant Constituency.
He said: "I have been campaigning for more funding for flood defences, and I pleased to visit the Langstone site again for an update about this important scheme that will help to protect the local community against flooding.
"I have spoken in Parliament on local flooding issues and I'll continue to speak up on behalf of local residents for Government funding to maintain and improve important flood defences."
