Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed the announcement that the Havant Constituency will receive another £75,000 today to support key cultural and heritage organisations as they reopen and recover from coronavirus.

The Spring Arts & Heritage Centre in central Havant has received £47,000 today from the Government's Culture Recovery Fund to help them re-open, having already received £137,000 last year to support them during lockdown.

Making Space, a community-based craft organisation in Leigh Park, has received £28,000. Making Space creates opportunities for people to discover and develop design and making skills, increasing personal wellbeing through involvement in high-quality craft.

Mr Mak has visited both organisations on several occasions to support them, including visiting The Spring in October 2020 when they received their first tranche of £137,000 in grant funding.

This funding for two important Havant Constituency arts organisations is part of the £400 million in grants and loans being delivered through the Culture Recovery Fund to over 2,700 organisations across England, to help cultural and heritage organisations reopen and thrive in the better times ahead. This brings the Government's total investment across grants, capital and repayable finance from the Culture Recovery Fund so far to more than £1.2 billion across over 5,000 individual cultural and heritage organisations and sites.

Alan Mak MP said:  “I’ve been lobbying Government for funding to keep our local theatres and cultural organisations alive, and this new funding for The Spring and Making Space is fantastic news that will protect local jobs and keep both organisations open. I look forward to The Spring and Making Space both re-opening and I’m delighted this new money will help them thrive in the future.”
