Local MP Alan Mak has voted online to provide funding for the Langstone Pilot Gig Club and has encouraged all residents to do the same.
The MP cast his vote for Northney-based Langstone Pilot Gig Club, to receive money from the Aviva Community Fund. The most popular organisations go into the finals, where a panel of judges decide whether to award funds of up to £25,000.
The club has launched ’Rowing – Oarsome Fitness and Fun’ and is aiming to purchase a set of six oars, costing £2,700 – with the aim to promote rowing as an inclusive activity for all.
Brian West, Open Rowing Co-ordinator, said: “We are delighted Alan has voted to support our project. Through Rowing – Oarsome Fitness and Fun we would encourage even more people to experience and enjoy all the benefits of rowing and become part of a very inclusive club. The new set of oars would allow Langstone Pilot Gig Club to further promote rowing as a lifestyle choice. We encourage others to also log-on to the Aviva Community Fund to give us their support.”
To vote, please visit community-fund.aviva.co.uk and search for Langstone Pilot Gig Club. You have 10 votes to allocate, so please allocate all 10 to the Langstone Gig Club project. The vote closes at 12 noon on 18 November.
Alan said: “I was delighted to vote for the Langstone Pilot Gig Club and I encourage everyone to go online and help this excellent local club. The Langstone Pilot Gig Club is a great local asset and I am pleased to have visited the club on numerous occasions, having spent time on the water with the members. I hope that my vote and the votes of other local residents will get them the funding they deserve.”
Rowing takes place all year round, with the club entering rowing regattas in the summer months, as well as taking part in the World Gig Rowing Championships which are held annually over the early May Bank holiday in the Isles of Scilly.
