Local MP Alan Mak has visited children's Christmas holiday clubs held at Park Community School in Leigh Park.
The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme was started by the last Conservative Government to help lower-income families.
Mr Mak was a strong advocate for HAF's creation, using his experience as President and trustee of children’s breakfast club charity Magic Breakfast.
HAF provides free activities and meals to children from Reception to Year 11 during the Easter, summer and Christmas school holidays. Hampshire County Council delivers it with local partners through its Connect4Communities programme.
Mr Mak visited two HAF clubs at Park Community School - one run by Active Kids and the other by the school itself.
He helped the children to make Christmas decorations and gingerbread figures and watched as they enjoyed karaoke singing and playing on a bouncy castle.
The HAF scheme aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and each programme provider is required to supply a nutritious meal as part of the holiday clubs.
Mr Mak said: "The HAF holiday clubs, which began under the previous Conservative Government, are a great way to keep children healthy and occupied during the school holidays.
"I really enjoyed visiting the Christmas clubs at Park Community School to show my continued support for their work and funding.
"Thanks to HAF the children are learning, having fun, making friends and getting a healthy meal too. I'll continue to support HAF activities in our area because I've seen how much they are valued by local children and their parents."
