Local MP Alan Mak has submitted his petition against car park charges to Labour-controlled Havant Borough Council.
Hundreds of local residents have added their names, objecting to the introduction of charges at car parks across the borough that were previously free and charges being brought in across all HBC car parks on Sundays and bank holidays.
Mr Mak's campaigning on this issue last year led to the Council putting the plans on hold. But it is now going ahead in what he has condemned as a 'cash grab'.
He said: "The response to me launching a petition shows the strength of feeling on this issue and the Council should take notice instead of ploughing on with the new charges.
"This cash grab is unacceptable, as is the covert way it is being done by signs with tiny writing being quietly installed in council car parks."
