Local MP Alan Mak spoke at a Tech Summit about AI’s impact on our economy and workplaces.
The summit in London brought together leading decision-makers and opinion-formers to explore the future of the UK's technology sector.
It also examined how public policy can maximise the benefits of technology whilst ensuring they are felt more widely, particularly by those on modest incomes.
Topics covered included:
The impact of generative AI on the quality and quantity of work
How should our education and skills system be reformed to better prepare workers for the transformative impact of tech on the economy
How can employers, unions and government work together to ensure that technological adoption delivers good work and productivity growth
Using new technology to improve our public services and the Fourth Industrial Revolution are two of Mr Mak's main areas of interest in Parliament. He was the founding chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
He said: "The UK's technology sector is vitally important for our economy and our society.
"AI is going to be part of all our lives, so we need to have discussions such as those at the Tech Summit about its impact and how we adapt to ensure we harness its power effectively."
