Local MP Alan Mak has served up a roast dinner to local residents attending the Age Concern Hayling Island Lunch Club.

Mr Mak also took the time to sit with the diners, all of whom are his constituents, to hear their views on local and national issues.

The Age Concern Hayling Island Lunch Club is run by a small group of volunteers 3 times a week, and offers a 2-course lunch for £4 per head to local elderly residents.

Loneliness amongst older people is a key contributor to declining mental health. The lunch club provides an opportunity for local elderly people to get out and meet their friends and other members of their local community.

Mr Mak was recruited by the kitchen staff to help serve up roast dinner to the assembled residents, followed by a pudding of ice cream.

Local MP Alan Mak said: “I enjoyed serving meals at the Age Concern Hayling Island Lunch Club and meeting the team of volunteers who are doing a fantastic job helping older people from the community. Thank you to Cathy Shoebridge and all the volunteers for their hard work and community spirit!”

Cathy Shoebridge, chair of the Lunch Club’s committee, said “Thank you to our local MP Alan for coming to meet our members and help serve lunch. We are always looking for more  volunteers  that can help us prepare and serve lunches to our members and if it’s something that interests you please get in touch!”
