Local MP Alan Mak has visited Hayling Hog Roast on Hayling Island to present the owners with an award for Best Food and Drink Outlet.
The local caterer was nominated by local residents in the “Best Food and Drink Outlet” category in the Havant Constituency Small Business and Community Awards organised by Alan Mak MP.
Local MP Alan Mak said: “Congratulations to Hayling Hog Roast who have been nominated by local residents for the best food and drink outlet in the constituency. Ben and Shelley have worked hard to build up the business on Hayling and beyond, and as events, weddings and larger events resume I hope local traders such as Hayling Hog Roast benefit from local support.”
The Hayling Hog Roast is a family run business of over 15 years, offering rustic style, great quality food at private functions such as weddings for up to 1000 people. Last summer they also opened a new restaurant called Hog and Smoke on Hayling Island, and offered drive-through hog roast.
Hayling Hog Roast’s co-owner Shelley Meredith said: “We are delighted to be receiving this award and want to say thanks to Alan for setting up the local business awards. They are a great way for the community to give back to the businesses that serve them, and show their support especially when times have been tough these last 18 months. We have had to work hard and diversify our business, from running our drive thru hog roast last summer to the opening of our shop Hog & Smoke. We are now back to catering for weddings and events but would like to express our thanks to our loyal customers who have supported us through our journey. It’s great to be acknowledged and for that we are most appreciative.’’
Alan Mak’s Havant Constituency Small Business and Community Awards have been running since he was first elected in 2015, and aim to promote local enterprises by encouraging the local community to become customers, and nominate businesses they feel deserve an award.
Alan Mak added: “I have always championed small businesses and local enterprises and it’s fantastic that we are once again promoting businesses in our area with the Havant Small Business and Community Awards. Nominations are now open for next year’s Awards, so please send me your views!”
