Local MP Alan Mak met Peter McQuade to purchase a copy of the book at the Hayling Island Bookshop

Local MP Alan Mak has visited the Hayling Island Bookshop to meet Peter McQuade, founder of the Paris to Hayling Charity Cycle Ride, to congratulate him on publishing his new book about the prominent local event.

The new book, titled Raw Hides and Sore Heads, is a collection of Peter’s memories of taking part in the event, which has been running between Paris and Hayling Island annually for 35 years. Proceeds from sales of the book are going to charities We See Hope and Hayling Helps Ukraine.

The cycle ride is open to anybody who would like to get involved for an entry fee in addition to at least £150 of funds raised for charity. It usually attracts hundreds of riders every year. This year it is taking place in July and will see riders cover just shy of 400 miles over 6 days of riding.

Peter McQuade is the founder and President of the Paris to Hayling Cycle ride, having taken part since the inaugural event in 1986 where he raised money for a cot death charity following a friend’s bereavement. He was awarded an MBE in 2015 for his fundraising efforts over the years.

Local MP Alan Mak said: “Congratulations to Peter for releasing this book and his amazing fundraising over 36 years of the Paris to Hayling Charity Cycle Ride. I’ve bought a copy and I wish Peter and all the riders embarking on the challenge in July the very best of luck!”

Peter McQuade MBE said: “Thanks Alan for coming to buy a copy of the book. Although I initially planned the ride as a one off, I am looking forward to setting off again in July for our 36th year. If you would like to get involved, please visit our website: haylingcycleride.org.uk”
