Local MP Alan Mak has cut the ribbon on Leigh Park Bowls Club’s new clubhouse. Incorporating a full bar, a new hospitality area and panoramic windows which overlook the bowling green, Leigh Park now has some of the finest bowling facilities in the county.

After many years of planning and fundraising, local builders BuildSure run by a Leigh Park tradesman recently completed work on the clubhouse which will not only provide social facilities but is even large enough to host indoor short mat bowls during the winter, providing sporting opportunities throughout the year.

The club, which has been operating in Leigh Park since 1965, welcomes social and playing members of all ages and prides itself on its friendly and inclusive atmosphere.

Mr Mak said: “Leigh Park Bowls Club is a great community asset, and their new clubhouse will help them raise their already-high reputation for excellence, offering a warm welcome for members and visiting teams alike.”

He added “The importance of staying active and healthy has been brought into sharp focus by the pandemic. Bowling provides great low intensity exercise, in the fresh air and in a fun and social environment – all things we know can help invigorate physical and mental health. I’ve been proud to support the Leigh Park Bowls Club for several years and I am thrilled that local people have access to this new first-class facility”.

Club President, Steve Prior, said: “I am immensely proud of our new club house and grateful to our local MP Alan Mak for opening it. Bowling is a wonderful and accessible sport and I look forward to welcoming members both old and new. We have already had offers from teams across the county who are keen to host matches here in the future”.

Leigh Park Bowls Club is located at Somborne Drive, Havant. Further information can be found at their website.
