Local MP Alan Mak has visited Park Community School in Leigh Park to talk to pupils.
He met a group from the Student Voice team, some of whom have recently stood in the school election for the Hampshire Youth Parliament.
Mr Mak talked about the role of an MP and took part in a question and answer session. He also asked the students for their views on restricting social media for under-16s.
At Park Community School students aged 11-16 are not allowed to use mobile phones during the school day. On arrival they are expected to switch phones off and place them in personal lockable pouches.
Mr Mak said: "I really enjoyed meeting the students at Park Community School. It's great to see young people with a real interest in politics.
"On a separate note, it was also interesting to find out how they are required to store their phones in pouches while at school so as to avoid distractions and potential safeguarding risks. The pupils were very supportive of this approach because it helped them stay focused on their lessons and learning."
