Local MP Alan Mak met the group of young people at Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham

Local MP Alan Mak was the guest speaker at a roundtable discussion with young people seeking careers in politics at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham.

The discussion, organised by the Patchwork Foundation, brought together young people in education and employment who are thinking about a political career. They asked Mr Mak questions about his journey into Parliament, his career before politics and what advice he would give to his younger self.

Patchwork Foundation is a registered charity which promotes and encourages the active participation of young people from disadvantaged.

Earlier this year, Mr Mak won the Conservative MP of the Year award at the cross-party MP of the Year Awards at Speaker’s House in Parliament. The awards were presented by Mr Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle in partnership with the Patchwork Foundation.

Local MP Alan Mak said: “Today’s young people are tomorrow’s politicians and it’s important we have a pipeline of talented people from all backgrounds who step up for public service. I was delighted to speak at the roundtable and thank all the young people who attended for their engagement and asking such good questions.”
