Local MP Alan Mak has participated in several events in and around central Havant to mark Remembrancetide and Remembrance Sunday.

The Havant MP first joined Anne Newcombe at the Tesco superstore on Solent Road. Alongside other local Royal British Legion volunteers, he officially launched the 2022 poppy appeal in the Havant Constituency.

Mr Mak is Vice-Chairman of the Havant branch of the Royal British Legion, and offers his support to the Poppy Appeal every year.

Alan also visited the Meridian Centre on Armistice Day to sell poppies alongside local Legion volunteers.

On Remembrance Sunday, Alan joined forces with Deputy Lieutenant Major General James Balfour CBE DL and other local dignitaries to march alongside local veterans to the war memorial on West Street.

Once assembled at the memorial, Mr Mak joined other local dignitaries for the Act of Remembrance, which involved reading the names on the Havant War Memorial and, following a 2-minute silence at 11am, the laying of a poppy wreath.

There was also a special service at St. Faith’s Church, lead by the Rev. Canon Tom Kennar, where Mr Mak gave a reading.

The MP for Havant has been busy elsewhere in the Constituency too. On Hayling Island, Alan has been selling poppies alongside local poppy appeal coordinator Angela Hopkins in Lidl, and had wreaths laid on his behalf by local Councillors Brenda Linger and Clare Satchwell.

In Emsworth, he has also joined a Remembrance Sunday service at St. James’ Church, led by the Rev. Andrew Sheard.

Local MP Alan Mak said:

“Every year at Remembrancetide, I take part in events across the Havant Constituency to honour the service and sacrifice of all those have served and continue to serve our country. It was an honour to take part in the parade again. Thank you to Rev. Tom Kennar and local residents for their strong support for the Poppy Appeal and their participation in events on Armistice Day, Remembrance Sunday and throughout Remembrancetide in and around Havant.”
