Local MP Alan Mak has planted a wooden cross in the House of Commons Constituency Garden of Remembrance to honour all those from the Havant Constituency who have served their country and made the ultimate sacrifice.

The garden in New Palace Yard was launched in 2021 by the Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle in partnership with the Royal British Legion.

It gives all 650 MPs from across the UK the opportunity to participate collectively in an Act of Remembrance at Parliament, planting tributes in one place and honouring constituents past and present who have defended and continue to defend our way of life.

The Garden of Remembrance also includes space for tributes from member countries of the Commonwealth, British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies.

This year also marks 60 years since the last generation who undertook National Service were demobbed.

Mr Mak said: "We must never forget the service and sacrifice of our veterans, Armed Forces personnel and military families.

"I was honoured to plant a cross on behalf of everyone in the Havant Constituency in the House of Commons Constituency Garden of Remembrance to honour those from our area who have served our country and defended our freedom and democracy.”
