Local MP Alan Mak (right) and Andrew Griffith MP (left) are calling on local businesses to commit to the Together For Our Planet campaign.

Local MP Alan Mak is calling on local businesses in the Havant Constituency to make formal commitments to reducing their carbon emissions output, with the ultimate goal of achieving net zero emissions.

The MP is championing the Together For Our Planet Business Climate Leaders campaign led by the Government’s Net Zero Business Champion Andrew Griffiths MP ahead of this year’s COP26 UN Climate Summit hosted by the UK in Glasgow. The aim is for local businesses to reduce their carbon output by 50% by 2030, and to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Local MP Alan Mak said: “I am encouraging businesses of all sizes across the Havant Constituency to commit to net zero emissions. In order to combat climate change, we all have to work together. Only when many individuals come together to make big collective changes to our lifestyles and businesses will we begin to see the negative effects of climate change stop”.

In November the UK will be hosting the COP26 Climate Conference in Glasgow, where world leaders will gather to commit to urgent action to protect the environment. Suggested steps to reduce climate impact include switching to LED light bulbs, insulating buildings, installing renewable energy sources such as solar panels, and electrifying vehicle fleets.

Businesses interested in taking up the pledge can visit http://www.businessclimatehub.org/uk/ for further information on the campaign.
