Local MP Alan Mak has visited St Peter's Church on Hayling Island to show his support for the Tree of Light community project for Christmas 2025, and dedicate a bulb in memory of his father.
Residents are given bulbs for a minimum donation of £7.50, which are then placed on a yew tree in the churchyard in memory of loved ones.
Dedications are recorded on ribbons, which are tied to the tree.
Organiser John Blake launched the project because he wanted to provide a way for people to remember those special to them at Christmas time, while also raising funds for church maintenance. He is now supported by volunteer Karen Cutting.
Mr Mak, who dedicated a bulb to his father during his visit, said: "I'd like to thank John and Karen for their hard work once again organising the Tree of Light in 2025.
"This is an excellent community initiative that I'm happy to support. I encourage local residents to pay a visit and light a bulb to remember their loved ones at this time of year."
The Tree of Light is open until 6 January, 2026. All denominations are welcome.
