Local MP Alan Mak has called in Parliament for the Labour Government to do more to attract investment in UK tech companies.
He said that just one pure technology company was now listed on the FTSE 100, the collective name for the 100 largest UK companies by value.
Mr Mak told Economic Secretary to the Treasury Lucy Rigby: "Budget measures such as cutting Venture Capital Trust tax relief will discourage companies from listing on the UK's exchanges."
He added: "For Britain to become a scale-up nation of high-growth companies, the Labour Government must change its approach and attract rather than drive away investment."
