Local MP Alan Mak calls for continued Government support in Parliament for Coastal Partners local flood protection body

Local MP Alan Mak has called for continued Government support for the Coastal Partners local flood protection body.

He spoke in Parliament during a debate on flooding and praised its work.

During the debate, Mr Mak said: "In relation to flood defence work and preparation in Havant, we benefit from the work of Coastal Partners, which is a regional body supported by local councils and funded by the Environment Agency, among others.”

Mr Mak called on the Government to continue their support for bodies such as Coastal Partners, because they provide a regional focus for flood defence and protection work.

Mr Mak has supported and worked closely with Coastal Partners on flooding and other environmental issues across the Havant Constituency.

Coastal Partners is a partnership formed of five councils in Havant, Fareham, Gosport, Portsmouth and Chichester which leads on issues along 246km of Hampshire and West Sussex's coastline.

Founded in 2012, it carries out many functions that help to protect thousands of homes, businesses, wildlife and infrastructure.

This includes managing flood and erosion risk, planning and designing new coastal defence schemes, inspecting and maintaining existing defences and working towards a flood-resilient future.

Some of their funding comes from central Government via the Environment Agency, and I will continue to back funding bids in Westminster that benefit our community.
