Havant MP Alan Mak praised the talented members of Hayling Youngstars musical troupe after he was invited to Hayling College to see them perform. The youth section of the Hayling Musical Society enacted a variety of songs from their favourite musicals during four performances across the weekend.
The Hayling Youngstars perform throughout the year at the Hayling Community Centre, but have secured an agreement with Hayling College to put on a series of special performances over the weekend. For just £15 membership per year, local youngsters are given the chance to shine amongst a plethora of dramatic and musical performances.
Following the performance, Havant MP Alan Mak said: “I enjoyed joining local parents, friends and supporters at Hayling College to see a superb performance by the Hayling Youngstars. It is great to see so much musical and dramatic talent in the local community, especially amongst our younger members.”
Mak added: “I think that it is vital, alongside promoting successful schools and colleges, to let local children express themselves in clubs and societies such as Hayling Youngstars. It is a vital part of the strong community spirit that we have locally.”
Kim Budd, co-ordinator of the Hayling Youngstars, said: “It was brilliant to be able to welcome Alan along today to see some of our brightest Youngstars perform. It shows how much Alan values local community projects and societies, and that as local MP he is always keen to lend his support.”
“We had a real extravaganza of a show this weekend – including everything from Mamma Mia! To Billy Elliot- and the kids were excellent throughout. The future of musical theatre on Hayling is in good hands!”
