Havant MP Alan Mak has thrown his support behind Hayling Island’s Medina Joinery as the countdown to his inaugural Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair begins in earnest. The popular windows, doors and timber specialists are one of over 50 local exhibitors who will be offering jobs, apprenticeships and industry expertise at the fair on Friday 19th February at Warblington School.
Medina is a family-run business that builds roof lanterns, windows and doors. The workshop on Hayling Island is equipped with specialist AutoCAD (computer aided design) equipment, which allows Medina to create bespoke products for a range of commercial and private clients.
Havant MP Alan Mak singled out the joinery as a prime example of the continuing strength of local small businesses that support apprenticeships. Given Medina’s excellent record of providing apprenticeships for school-leavers in the area, Mak was keen to promote them as a local business success story and a key exhibitor at his upcoming Jobs Fair.
Mak said: “I enjoyed visiting James and his team at Medina Joinery on Hayling Island. Supporting local businesses and our economy is my top priority as local MP. Growing businesses like Medina are key to getting our local economy firing on all cylinders.”
The Havant MP added: “By providing apprenticeships and technical jobs, Medina is a great example of a local business that’s looking to the future and investing in young people. I’m delighted Medina will join over 50 other employers at my Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair on 19 February”
James Light, Managing Director at Medina Joinery, said: “I enjoyed showing Alan what we do and getting an understanding of his efforts to promote apprenticeships locally, which need to be brought up to the standard of university courses.”
Light added: “We are committed to training local people to become skilled in the joinery profession. Alan’s Jobs Fair is an excellent opportunity for us to scout talent from the local area as well as promote our business.”
The Havant Jobs & Apprenticeship Fair takes place on 19 February at Warblington School from 10AM-4PM. The Fair will be opened at 10.30 by celebrity plumber and entrepreneur Charlie Mullins OBE.
