Havant MP Alan Mak has been made an Honorary Member of the Havant Hockey Club at a special presentation last Saturday 23 January. Mr Mak was awarded his membership at the Havant Park clubhouse by captain Dr Raj Laly and chairman Bill Jones following their Saturday win over Staines.
Mak, a keen hockey player, said “it is a real privilege to be made an Honorary Member of the Havant Hockey Club. I have a great relationship with Raj and everyone involved with the club, and I hope that I can get stuck into some action soon.”
He added “I am looking forward to playing for my local side. I believe that sport is an excellent means of promoting community spirit and developing a healthy and happy lifestyle. Having already been privileged to be made Honorary Vice-President of the Havant Rugby Club, I am delighted to be closely associated with Havant Hockey Club as a prominent supporter. The Club has an exciting future ahead.”
Dr Laly said “we are delighted that Alan has accepted our invitation to become an Honorary Member of the Havant Hockey Club. He has always been supportive of the team both on and off the field, and it was great fun when he joined us for our 1st XI training session. Apart from continued success in the league, the club also has ambitious plans for new facilities. I know Alan will support us on both counts.”
The Havant skipper added “Alan is a useful player too, he can certainly help us out on Saturday mornings! It is wonderful to see him making a genuine effort to get involved in the club and the wider community, and this Honorary Membership is a testament to that.”
Mak is keen to promote sports teams in Havant as a key source of social interaction in the area. He has lent his support to various events and organisations such as the Havant Borough Sports Awards, and gives regular backing to the popular sailing clubs in Langstone, Emsworth and Hayling. Mak was made a Vice-President of Havant Rugby Club in November 2015.
