Havant MP Alan Mak has launched the area’s first ever competition for school children to design his official Christmas card for 2015.
The competition, which Mak hopes to repeat each year, is open to all children attending primary schools in Alan’s constituency.
Mak launched the competition during an art class with children from Front Lawn Primary Academy in Leigh Park, Havant.
The local MP's official Christmas card for 2015 will be professionally printed by Hayling Print based on Hayling Island. Owner Jerry Widowson is backing Alan’s competition.
Mak’s Christmas card will be sent out to local community organisations and businesses across Alan’s constituency as well as politicians in Westminster including Prime Minister David Cameron.
Mak has written to every local primary school to ask them to support the competition by collating children’s entries. Local children who wish to enter can either hand in their entry at their school, or send it directly to Mak’s constituency office at Langstone Technology Park.
Alan Mak MP said, "I was delighted to go back to Front Lawn Primary Academy to launch the competition to design my official Christmas card for 2015. This is a real community project, giving local children the opportunity to showcase their talents and creativity. I hope that lots of schools and children take up the challenge and get involved."
James Munt, headteacher at Front Lawn Primary Academy said, "This is a great community initiative from our local MP and I hope all local schools, parents and children will support it. Alan is a big supporter of local schools and there's a huge amount of artistic talent amongst children at Front Lawn and around the Havant area!"
The winner of the competition will see their design feature on the front of Mak’s card, and also receive a certificate presented by him at their school, as well as a family ticket for Hansel & Gretel at the Spring Theatre in Havant kindly donated by the theatre’s director Sophie Fullerlove.
Runners-up will see their designs feature on the back of the card and also receive a certificate.
Every pupil who enters the completion will receive a certificate of thanks from Alan Mak MP.
The deadline for entries is Friday 6 November 2015. Local children who wish to enter can either hand in their entry at their school, or send it directly to Mak’s constituency office at Langstone Technology Park, Langstone Road, Havant, PO9 1SA.
Alan Mak MP is grateful to the Spring Theatre, Havant for generously donating the first prize.
