Two Havant residents have praised Alan Mak’s Jobs, Apprenticeship and Careers Fair, after finding work as carers after attending the event which took place in March.
Mark Wilson and Becky Webb have both taken on jobs at local care provider Right at Home, after the company exhibited at Mak’s Jobs Fair. The event attracted around 2,000 jobs seekers, with over 60 businesses offering more than 900 jobs and apprenticeships.
Mark Wilson said: “The careers fair was very well organised – I attended a CV workshop and used the opportunity to speak to different businesses about careers advice. My new powered-up CV got me four interview requests and I decided to join the Right at Home team in Havant.
“I’m looking forward to a career where you can make a big difference to the daily lives of the clients and your own outlook on life.”
Becky also signed up after having a long chat about the role of a Right at Home CareGiver with business owner Duncan Cameron.
She said: “Things didn't work out at my last job so I was looking for a new path. A friend tagged me on Facebook about Alan’s careers fair, so I went and one of the first people I met was Duncan. We had a lovely chat and set a up an interview and it went uphill from there.
“I am new to caring but when I came for my induction I found the training very informative and everyone I have met has been so welcoming and helpful. I am enjoying my job for the first time in ages.”
Alan, who visited Mark, Becky and Duncan outside Right at Home’s new offices on North Street Arcade, said: “I was delighted to meet Becky and Mark to congratulate them on finding work following my Jobs Fair. Hearing success stories from residents who attended makes the event worthwhile. The event is becoming an annual fixture in our community’s calendar and is helping to boost our strong local economy.”
Right at Home has invited local community groups and anyone interested in joining their team to an Office Opening event at their new home in the North Street Arcade, Havant, on Thursday June 1st from 12 – 2pm.
Duncan Cameron said: “Often people who are very well suited to delivering top quality care services won’t have considered this sector before, so events like Alan’s Fair are a fantastic opportunity to explain how the role may differ from people’s expectations, and to demonstrate the range of professional development opportunities that we can offer.”
