Local MP Alan Mak urges residents and businesspeople to volunteer as governors at Leigh Park's Barncroft Primary School

Local MP Alan Mak is urging residents and businesspeople to volunteer as governors at Barncroft Primary School in Leigh Park.

The school is looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to join the governing body and help to shape its future.

Mr Mak visited the school to meet Headteacher Sara Petipher, Chairman of Governors Paul Shaw and some of the pupils, who were taking part in a sports day.

Barncroft Primary School was formed in 2012 when the former Infant and Junior schools came together in a purpose-built community building.

Today it serves more than 420 children, with the vast majority of families living in the Leigh Park area.

Governors work closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders and help to ensure that every child receives the best possible education and support.

Mr Mak said: "I enjoyed returning to Barncroft and I would urge residents and businesspeople to consider volunteering as governors. I've been a school governor myself and know what an important role it is and how rewarding it can be.

"You don't need prior experience in education - just commitment, curiosity, and a desire to make a positive impact."
