Local MP Alan Mak visited Hayling Island Sailing Club to present the prizes for the 2023 International Laser Class Association (ILCA) UK National Championships sailing regatta.
This year's Championships, held off Hayling, attracted more than 240 boats and competitors ranging in age from 12 to over 60.
The ILCA/Laser is a single-handed dinghy and one of the most popular boat classes in the world.
Hayling Island Sailing Club has a long association with ILCA/Lasers, having hosted the World Championships in 2011 and the Nationals on several occasions, including this year and last year.
Mr Mak said: "The success of this year's Nationals puts Hayling Island Sailing Club in a strong position to bid for future European and World events, which attract significant inward investment into the local Hayling economy, sustain local jobs and promote Hayling on the world stage.
"Congratulations to everyone at the Club for hosting a successful National Championships and I will certainly be supporting them as they bid for future UK and international events."
Graham Williamson, Commodore of Hayling Island Sailing Club, said the Club had alreadv secured host status for three more prestigious events in the next two years.
They are the Aero Class World Championships in 2024 and the Europe Class International Youth and Masters and ILCA European Masters in 2025.
He said: "Not only are these important events to our club, reinforcing our reputation within the world sailing community as a top class venue for regattas, they are also important in ensuring that we encourage overseas visitors to spend their Euros here!"
