Local MP Alan Mak has attended events across the Havant Constituency marking the passing of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and welcoming the new reign of King Charles III, during the national mourning period.
On Friday 9 September, the day after the news of Her Late Majesty’s passing, Mr Mak opened our area’s local Book of Condolence for the Queen at Havant Borough Council’s offices at the Public Service Plaza. His tribute paid homage to the Queen’s unprecedented 70 years on the throne and recognised her enormous contribution to public life.
Alan later attended a service of remembrance at St. Faith’s Church in Havant, where he gave a reading from the Book of Corinthians. The congregation sang hymns which were personally selected by Her Late Majesty The Queen and he received communion.
Shortly afterwards Mr Mak attended the Proclamation of His Majesty King Charles III’s new reign, and laid a wreath of white flowers in remembrance of Her Late Majesty.
The following week, Mr Mak visited Westminster Hall to receive an Address to Parliament from King Charles III. Later in the week, Alan also attended the Queen’s Lying-in-State where he paid his respects. It is estimated that over a quarter of a million members of the public were able to view the Coffin Lying-in-State at Westminster.
On the Sunday before the Queen’s State Funeral, Mr Mak attended a civic service at St Faith’s Church to remember Her Late Majesty’s remarkable reign. Members of the public and civic officials in attendance also prayed for King Charles III. The service ended with mourners observing a minute of silence in St Faith’s churchyard, lighting and planting candles in remembrance of The Queen.
Finally on Wednesday 21 September, Mr Mak swore the Oath of Allegiance to His Majesty King Charles III as the Member of Parliament for the Havant Constituency.
Local MP Alan Mak said: “Queen Elizabeth lived an life of service, duty and dedication to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. She will be dearly missed by everyone in the Havant Constituency, but her legacy will never be forgotten. God Save The King.”
