Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed the first payments of the Government’s £150 council tax rebate, which will help residents and families across the Havant Constituency with living costs.
Families living in Council Tax bands A to D will receive a non-repayable £150 cash rebate from the Government to assist with cost of living pressures, exacerbated by the UK’s COVID recovery and the war in Ukraine. A second discretionary scheme for households on low income but do not qualify for the main scheme will open next month.
As the UK economy continues to recover from the impact of COVID, the Government is working to confront global inflationary pressures caused by the world economy coming swiftly back to life.
The rebate is administered by Havant Borough Council, and will be paid directly into bank accounts of residents who pay council tax by direct debit. Residents who do not use direct debate can claim the rebate from Havant Borough Council. Rebates will start being paid into bank accounts this week.
Local MP Alan Mak said: “This Government’s new £150 Council Tax rebate will help residents across the Havant Constituency with living costs which are under pressure from global inflationary pressure. The council tax rebate is on top of other support including the rise in the Living Wage, the cut to National Insurance and the Warm Home Discount scheme. I welcome the timely payments from Havant Borough Council that I know have worked hard to get money paid to residents.”
Cllr Alex Rennie, Leader of Havant Borough Council, said, “The Government’s Council Tax Rebate puts money back in the pockets of residents and we’re starting to pay the rebate this week. Havant Borough Council has worked quickly to develop software to deliver the rebate as quickly as possible and ahead of many other Councils around the country. We are shortly opening a discretionary scheme for those on low incomes who do not qualify for the main scheme.”
