Local MP Alan Mak has joined Lockheed Martin to present a cheque for £1400 to the Beacon foodbank in Havant.

Staff at aerospace company Lockheed Martin, who based in central Havant, would usually receive a hamper at the end of the year to recognise their hard work. However, this year, they opted to convert the value of the gifts to cash, and donated it to the Beacon foodbank at the Meridian Centre.

The Beacon foodbank has been operating in Havant since 2009. It relies of donations of food from the public, which are made either at the foodbank or at donation points in local supermarkets.

Local MP Alan Mak said: “I was delighted to learn that Lockheed Martin staff had decided to make this charitable donation to the Beacon. Their community spirit is highly commendable, and I want to thank them for their generosity.”

Emlyn Taylor, Group Managing Director at Lockheed Martin, said: “We are delighted that so many of our staff took this approach to help their local community, and I am certainly not surprised by-election this selfless approach.  Our workforce often go above and beyond throughout the year to provide their assistance where they live and work.”

“We are grateful to companies, such as Lockheed Martin, for supporting our mission help those who need it most during this time of remarkable need.”, said Liz Ascua, Community Projects Manager at Beacon Food Bank.  “It is through the generosity and compassion for community from public and company donations that we are able to maintain operational capacity at the level.”
