Local MP Alan Mak has visited the Hayling Scouts on Sunday 19 December 2021 to thank them for their Christmas card delivery service work, and to show his appreciation and gratitude for the hard work the group does in the local community all year round.
The 3rd Hayling Island Scout group is the sole Scouting organisation on Hayling Island, and one of the largest in Hampshire with over 200 Scouts and many adult volunteers.
For 38 years, the Scouts have run a Christmas card delivery service. Members of the public can opt to pay 30 pence for a special stamp at supporting newsagents and local shops, which then means the Christmas card is hand-delivered by the local Scouts. At the end of the festive period, all proceeds raised from stamp sales go back into the local Scout group.
Local MP Alan Mak said: “Hayling Island Scouts have been running their Christmas card deliveries for 38 years, and have been a real asset to the community by offering this service. The Scouts are a fantastic organisation that offer young people the chance to learn new skills, make new friends, and get involved in exciting experiences such as trips abroad. I encourage more young people on Hayling Island to consider joining 3rd Hayling Scouts and get involved with their many activities!”
Sarah, who organised this year’s Christmas card delivery service, said: “I'd like to thank Alan Mak for joining us today and meeting with the team. We are proud to have been able to offer this service to local residents once again for a 38th year. It is just one of the many things we do as part of our community work on Hayling Island. This year our brilliant team of leaders and Scouts have sorted and delivered over four thousand cards! You can find more about joining the group at: https://www.haylingscouts.org.uk/"
