Local MP Alan Mak has visited the new TSB pop-up bank at Hayling Island Community Centre after a sustained campaign to keep services available to residents.
The bank announced last year that their Hayling Island branch would be closing, which Mr Mak found very disappointing. He took immediate action and wrote to the bank asking them to review their decision and introduce a pop-up service if the branch closed.
TSB is now operating the pop-up service at Hayling Island Community Centre for one day a week, granting residents most of the services they would be able to access in a regular branch. Since it launched earlier this year, it has already proven a hit with residents, becoming the 7th busiest of TSB’s pop-up banks across England.
Local MP Alan Mak said “I’m delighted my campaign to persuade TSB to introduce a new pop-up bank service on Hayling Island has been successful. This will enable residents to continue accessing most of the banking services available in a physical branch. I was disappointed to hear TSB closed their branch, but the pop-up has already proved popular with local residents, including those who do most of their banking online.”
The pop-up branch at Hayling Island Community Centre is one of 43 spread throughout the U.K, and is delivered by one of TSB’s Mobile Money Confidence Experts, who is able to support customers with their banking needs such as making payments, getting help with products and services, and assistance with bereavements.
A TSB spokesperson said: “As consumer preferences change, we believe it is essential that TSB, as a responsible business, responds to these – including through new innovative ways to deliver banking services in areas where operating a branch is no longer sustainable.”
TSB has said it will be writing to customers who frequently used the old permanent branch, informing them of the new service and how they can use it.
