Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed a 4.2% funding increase for schools across the Havant constituency, in the latest round of funding allocations as set by national Government.

Funding for schools is increasing by 3.2% nationally, and by an average of 4.2% across the Havant Constituency, in the largest cash increase to school funding in over a decade. All schools in Havant will continue to receive more than the national minimum in terms of per-pupil funding.

Each Havant Constituency primary school receives on average £4,891 per pupil and each secondary school receives on average £6,219 per pupil. The national minimum per-pupil funding figure is £4,265 (per primary pupil) and £5,525 (per secondary pupil).

Local MP Alan Mak said: “I have been campaigning for more school funding in Westminster, so I am delighted that the Government has outlined this 4.2% funding increase for schools in the  Havant Constituency. Over £2.8 million is being delivered for school across our Constituency to help our young people. They’ve worked really hard during the pandemic, and this extra new funding is welcome".

The announced rise in funding is in keeping with the Government’s commitment to invest £14.4 billion into schools in the three years up to 2022-23.

Included in the funding plan is an additional £780 million for special needs schools, which will come into force next year. This equates to a 9.6% increase in per-pupil funding for these institutions.

The funding announced by the Government will be updated based on the latest pupil data, to produce finalised funding allocations in December. Local authorities will then receive the funding through the Dedicated Schools Grant.
