Local MP Alan Mak has congratulated Hayling Island’s Eilidh McIntyre’s on her Gold Medal success at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Hayling Island sailor won the Gold Medal in the 470 Class alongside her partner Hannah Mills.
It means Eilidh follows in the footsteps of her father Mike, another Islander, who won gold for Team GB in the star class at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.
Alan said: ““Congratulations to Eilidh on winning Olympic Gold. This is an amazing achievement, and everyone on Hayling and across the Havant area is very proud that a local sailor has reached the pinnacle of world sport after many years of hard work and training. Her success with partner Hannah Mills has lifted the whole country and reinforced Hayling’s status as a world class centre for sailing.”
“Eilidh’s outstanding achievement will inspire a new generation locally and across the country to work hard, aim high and aspire to represent our country on the world stage.”
