Havant MP Alan Mak has been appointed to a Government role following the post-election re-shuffle.
The newly re-elected Havant MP increased his majority and vote share at the election on Thursday 8 June, and will now work as a Parliamentary aide to Ministers in the Ministry of Justice led by the new Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice David Lidington. It comes just two years after he was first elected, following a successful career in law and business.
As Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS), Mr Mak will act as a vital link between the Government and Conservative backbench MPs as new legislation is formulated.
Reacting to the news, Mr Mak said he was delighted to have joined the team at the Ministry of Justice and now looks forward to working on not only Brexit, but planned court reforms and a new law on Domestic Violence.
He said: “Working hard for Havant constituents locally and in Westminster will remain my top priority, but I’m delighted to be appointed to a new role in the Ministry of Justice working with Justice Ministers. I’m looking forward to joining a dynamic team delivering important reforms, including ensuring new laws are in place so we are ready for Brexit and introducing new measures to modernise our courts system and combat domestic violence.”
“Since being elected as our area’s MP, I’ve supported Havant-based charity Southern Domestic Abuse Service, helping them secure Government funds. I’ll be using that knowledge and experience as we bring forward the important Domestic Violence and Abuse Bill which will transform our approach to helping victims.”
Despite the promotion Mr Mak says he will continue working hard for Havant, and championing local issues in Westminster.
He added: “It was an honour to be re-elected as MP for Havant with an increased majority and the highest ever share of the vote. Residents backed me to continue as a hard working local MP and that’s what I’ll to continue to be.”
